Create a Multivariate test

In a multivariate test (MVT) you test combinations of variations. Let's say you want to test which color and text that converts best for your CTA.

To test this you set up Group 1 with variations of button colors and Group 2 with variations of button text. In the example below we have renamed the variations to the colors and text that we will change to. This will also make the results easier to read.

Group 1 (color)

Group 2 - (text)

The MVT will then test all unique combinations of these variations for you. In the case above you would en up with 5 unique combinations;
Original
Group 1 - Red + Group 2 - Buy now
Group 1 - Green + Group 2 - Buy now
Group 1 - Red +  Group 2 - Add to cart
Group 1 - Green +  Group 2 - Add to cart

Notice that a MVT will need a lot of traffic as the number of variations increases a lot for each group and/or variation added.

If you do not have the amount of traffic needed to run 5 variations (as in the above example) it might be better to test this in an ordinary A/B test separately. I.e testing one thing at a time and iterate on the result to find the best combo.

1. Click A/B tests and click new Multivariate test

2. Select the website in the drop-down menu and set your project name and click Create Multivariate test.

3. Click go to the Multivariate test

4. Either use the WYSIWYG editor (do not use that on a dynamic website) or click show code to start creating your variation. Click Save when you are done!

Notice! The editor may not keep up with your changes if you do a lot of javascript/jQuery changes. Always use the preview function to check that your changes work and look as you want.

5. Set up your Audience to match your targeted visitors

6. Set up the KPI's you want to measure in Goals.

7. Preview your changes and make sure that Audience is correct, that the Goals work, and that your changes look good.

8. To activate your project, press Run (Bottom right) in the editor or activate it through the dashboard.
